Counselling
You may not know why you are feeling the way you do but you want to feel better and find renewed meaning and purpose in your life.
As an older woman you have been through a lot of experiences and losses in your life and have cared for many people and now you are feeling invisible and as if you don’t matter. You are still facing ongoing changes and challenges and are feeling like you are constantly trying to get ahead and asking yourself - Why do I feel like this? What do I want? What is next? How can I get there?
Underneath your exterior of competence and busyness you are feeling anger, frustration, shame and guilt about even having these feelings. You are thinking that everyone else seems to cope OK or is happy enough, and then you end up second guessing yourself which leads to more feelings of unworthiness and overwhelm. You think your friends or family just don’t get it and you are tired of reading self-help books and articles. You feel a sense of grief and loss when you think about the changes that you have been through, and you don’t know if you will ever do the things you want to do and you are unsure about what they are right now anyway. You just want someone to listen to you, validate you and help you find a way out. Your needs matter and you are entitled to feeling understood and start to see life through a lens of possibilities.
Therapy can feel like letting go of what is weighing you down.
Unique Challenges
The midlife and senior years can have unique challenges. You may still have dreams but can’t get the motivation to get yourself moving as you feel stuck in overwhelm. You may feel as though you have lost your identity as you are now an older person and are treated differently by others. You may be juggling many roles as an employee, mother to adult children and caring for ageing parents, and you are exhausted and feel unappreciated. You may have suffered recent health problems, a divorce or bereavement. There is likely to be loss and grief bottling up inside you and you feel ready to explode.
There is a Way Out
Counselling can reconnect you with who you are now and what it is that you want out of life. Counselling will allow you to feel visible and validated. Together we can rebuild your trust in yourself from the inside out, challenge limiting beliefs, set boundaries that align with your values and start taking micro steps towards the life you want, but we will do it in a way together, so you feel safe and do not get overwhelmed. You don’t need more on your ‘to do’ list. You are not broken – you are just stuck.
I will listen and support you through every step of the way.
