Your First Session

There may be anxiety about speaking to a counsellor and attending a first session and worry about being judged or thinking your concerns are trivial or too much. It may help to know what happens at our first session together.

Online therapy via Zoom in the comfort of your own home

You would have already filled out a client intake form which will have given me some information about you. I will explain to you about confidentiality and my role and your role in the process. Even though our sessions are via Zoom, we will be the only two people in the room and the sessions are not recorded.

At our first therapy session, it will be a ‘getting to know you’ time where I will ask a few questions, so I get more elaboration using your filled out client intake form as a guide.

You only answer what you feel comfortable answering.

I will ask you what your goals of therapy are – what is the most important thing right now you want to change in your life? Sometimes this can be difficult to answer as you may feel so overwhelmed you are not sure exactly what you want to work on. Together we can break it down and make the outcomes you want from therapy manageable.  It is OK if goals change with therapy - this happens as something new or unexpected comes up.

My priority is that you always feel safe with me and that at each session you leave feeling better than when you arrived.
